Saturday marked the first session of the CVBA short course at Oxbow Meadows.   We have 55 registered participants for our six week course!  Everyone was very attentive while they were introduced to a multitude of equipment and accessories.  Examples of all of the tangible items were available for them to see up close in addition to hearing a thorough presentation by Paul, our president.

A number of seasoned CVBA members were also present to assist with operations, administration, to help with questions and put in their two cents… as we all know personal preference in equipment can vary widely.  Thank you to all members who helped with this class, and thank you to Oxbow Meadows!  With a great staff and terrific facility, Oxbow Meadows is an ideal partner for the Chattahoochee Valley Beekeeping Association in making this Beekeeper Course available.  If you would like to find out more about our 2015 course CLICK HERE.  If you would like to find out more about Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center, CLICK HERE.

There was a lot of information given on Saturday, but getting started is usually the hardest part of any new venture.  Catalogs were available from several different beekeeping vendors and the new beekeepers were encouraged to take them and order what they need based on information in the workshop, notes they took during the explanation and their class binders.   Ordering equipment is something they need to do in a timely manner.  The third session, March 7th, marks the class where they will be instructed on how to put everything together.

We are pleased to see the tremendous interest in beekeeping.  A short course of this size is a huge responsibility.  Teamwork is required and all of our seasoned beekeepers are encouraged and welcomed to join in the fun!  Here are a few photos from our opening session…  Hope to see you next Saturday.
