  • Beekeeping Short Course -SPRING

    Date: 2014.03.04 | Category: Uncategorized | Response: 0

It is now time to register with Oxbow Meadows for the beekeeping course we will be teaching on March 22.  The course will begin at 9:00AM and will adjourn at 4:30PM.  Lunch and your text book, First Lessons In Beekeeping, are included in the tuition fee of $60.00.  Some nucleus bee hives (NUCs) have been set aside, on a first come basis, for students to order/purchase if they are also members in good standing of the Chattahoochee Valley Beekeepers Association.  The number of NUCs available is very limited as the producers have been sold out for weeks.  The first to register and make payment for the course is first in line to purchase a NUC if desired.  If you need bees, it will be to your advantage to register and pay tuition early.  Registering without making payment does not put you in line to purchase a NUC.

This is an adult education course, however responsible, interested teens are welcome to attend with a parent for an additional $20.00 tuition fee.

If you, as a member/student, desire to reserve a NUC of bees, they are $125.00 each and must be paid for in advance.  Our member team will take a trailer to South Georgia around the first week of April to pick up the NUCs.  You will get a phone call a day or two in advance to meet the trailer at Oxbow after dark (we move bees after dark).  You must pick them up the evening the trailer arrives and you must have assembled, painted wooden ware (full size hive bodies) in place to transfer your NUC into the next day.

If you attend our meeting, March 10 at Oxbow Meadows at 6:00PM, we can tell you more about what you need to do and what you need to have.  It will also be a great time for those of you eligible, to order and pay for your NUC.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  The NUCs are not enclosed when transported.  When the trailer arrives, there will be lots of bees flying around.  Please do not come in a vehicle in which you will have to put the NUCs in the backseat with you.  IF YOU DO, it will be a long and exciting drive home.
